Shaped fireworks
There are "Shaped-shell (We call them Kata-mono)" category in launching round shells. These are appears in various forms by star in the sky. To take an instance , Heart-shaped, alphabet letter, Smile face, these are recent typical case.
A basic Shaped-shell formed flat (two-dimensional) shape ordinaly. But three-dimensional shape lost much of its novelty now.
A "Shaped-shell" has history in Japan. It provided goes back to the Tokugawa (Edo) period. Japanese fireworks were no bright and colorful like recent fireworks for those days. Color was dark chacoal of black powder only, so Edo pyrotechnists were make variation of fireworks through each shapes. It is said that was the origin of "Shaped-shell".
Recently, I think it is not so clear to tell "Shaped-shell" from "New trend shell". All something little funny shaped shells except chrysanthemum or peony are apt to regarded as "Shaped-shell" or "New trend shell" at least for the audiences.
For example, "Butterfly" or "Saturn" has three-dimensional shape, so it not said two-dimensional shaped-shell. If anything, these are "New trend shell". But it looks like "Butterfly" and "Saturn", so almost of audiences don't care to call them shaped-shell.
All "Shaped-shell" are fated to " unable to see proper shape according to watching angle (position of audiences)".
Left pair of pics are both "10 inches Colored butterfly". Butterfly-shaped shell bloom not flat but three-dimensional shape like peony-round shell. If turn it proper side(front) toward audiences, it look butterfly like left pic. But turn it side like right pic, Nobody understand of it real shape.
Basic Shaped-shell that described outline (dot of each stars) are mostly flat shape. So if look them from side position, it looks only "line". It is too difficult for pyrotechnists, turn shell's front face toward any direction audience.
What is "New trend" or "Novel type" shell?" It defined "Fireworks that unconventional to bloom glove shape and free style and provide by novel technology". It is important to these novel fireworks not only color and form but creativity of rhythm and looking solid. These novel category demand flexible idea for any pyrotechnists. The present time, Traditional Japanese round shell=WARIMONO that bloom glove shape came to maturity at technology. In the future, all pyrotechnists must try to new making method and concept for dare to break these neat shapes both based on their traditinal skill. Novel technologies holding over traditinal technologies.
